Automator Follow-up: Video How-To!

I realize that if you're not familiar with the OSX Automator procedure I mentioned in an earlier post, it might be easier to see it in action. Below is a fairly amateurish walk-through of a batch-rename action in Automator which (I hope) should illustrate what I'm talking about…

(You should find Automator in your Applications folder, by the way…)

A Bard In The Hand…

In all the excitement recently, I completely failed to note the launch (and attendant arrival of my comp copies) of Classical Comics' latest adaptation: A Midsummer Night's Dream.

(I'm afraid US readers will have to wait until July for the American edition… sorry!)

There's always an odd difference between working on a book and actually holding the finished product in your hand, and this one was no different.

Kat Nicholson and Jason Cardy's lovely artwork looks even more stunning on Classical's usual high quality paper stock couple with their impeccable production values.

I approve wholeheartedly of Classical Comics' aims with their range of accessible, education-friendly titles and with this, probably my favourite Shakespeare play into the bargain, they've definitely scored another hit.

This was the fourth book I've lettered for Classical (the previous having been Great Expectations, Romeo and Juliet and The Canterville Ghost and, as always, it was a pleasure to contribute, even in a small way, to widening appreciation of great literature. It's another fine-looking book that I'm inordinately proud to have my name on.

I look forward to starting work on my fifth book, Dracula, in the not-too-distant future.

Cheers!

It's not the winning…

… it really isn't. I sat down at my computer on Monday morning to discover that I'd made the Eagle Award nominations for the 2010 awards.

So, I'd just like to say the most enormous, and heartfelt, "thank you" to everyone who took the time to visit the Eagle Awards website and put my name forward during the nominations process.

2010 was a fantastic year for me, professionally, particularly the second half of the year, where I received a lot of generous and encouraging praise from creators who are personal heroes of mine, so this is really the icing on what has been a very agreeable cake!

It's daunting to see my name listed in such august company, and alongside such a selection of great letterers. However, I remind myself that this award is for "Favourite Letterer" rather than "Best Letterer" … a distinction that lies very much in the eye of the beholder!

So… if you've read and enjoyed any of the books I've lettered, please consider casting your vote for me in the Letterer category. You'll find the voting form here and you start by simply clicking the "Next" button.

And, once again, many thanks to everyone who helped me to get this far.

PS: Apologies for the lack of blogging recently -- I'm in the process of trying to renovate a house, and then move into it, but I'm drafting some new posts now… stay tuned!
